Sunny Bowman

Sunny is the second-generation owner and operator of Dakota County Lumber, and currently serves as the President and CEO. Sunny re-entered the family business in late 2012, after spending her post-college years in Charleston, SC where she founded and ran a professional organizing company that transformed chaos into organized beauty. She holds dual bachelor’s degrees in International Political Economics and French & Francophone studies from The Colorado College in Colorado Springs, CO, and is a self-described Economics nerd. Sunny was lucky to get the opportunity to learn about the business from her father and founder, Steve Finden, from the day she started until she became DCL’s sole owner at the end of 2018. She still regularly calls her dad for advice and attributes DCL’s continued success to the rock-solid foundation that he build over his 30+ years in business.

Sunny lives in the South metro with her husband, two elementary-aged boys, and her two golden retrievers. Yes, the house is pure chaos! When she’s not at work, you can find her in her role as a mom, playing and coaching hockey, downhill skiing, hiking, golfing, snowshoeing, doing yoga, volunteering, or adventuring with her family. Her Christian faith guides her as a mom, wife, boss, and leader, and her greatest desire in life is to use what she has been given to love others well.

Fun Facts:

Sunny is an avowed member of the clean plate club—it takes a lot of food to fuel all those hobbies! She taught yoga for over a decade and still loves to get on her mat and move. There is no way for her to pick a favorite song because she was raised on 70’s Southern rock and Jesus music, so her tastes are juuuuuust a bit eclectic. Sunny’s favorite candy is Reese’s and her favorite fast food is anything with avocado, so basically tacos or poke bowls. Sunny hates setting the table and still doesn’t understand why her mom never made her older brother set the table—only her. Oh, and summer is her favorite season—lake days are the best!

Deano is the “Chief of Getting Your Order Delivered Perfectly.” He started working for DCL in 1987 (just 3 years after DCL started!), which means he has his own designated parking spot at the office. Deano has been married for 33 years and has two sons and one granddaughter.

Deano’s favorite songs are “Free Bird” by Lynrd Skynyrd, and “Nothing But A Good Time” by Poison. If you want to get on Deano’s good side, you can buy him a Reeses or a Big Mac. His most hated chore is cleaning windows. His favorite outdoor activity is swimming outside in his pool.

Logan Davis

Logan served in the Marine Corps and Army overseas and is a veteran. He has a dog, Penny, and 2 cats, Edgar and Speck. And Logan loves motorcycles.

Ellen started at DCL on Jan 31, 2022. She was looking for something new after 30 years in mostly finance roles at a couple of very large corporations. Ellen grew up in northern MN and went to college at UMD where she earned a B.A. degree in Management and Marketing. She has lived in Farmington for almost 20 years with her husband, Guy, and son, Lukas, and their dog—a mixed breed, named Bozer, who loves peanut butter.

Ellen enjoys reading, doing yoga, traveling, and spending time with her family doing escape rooms, watching TV, and movies, game nights, and ATVing. Ellen and her family are members of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Farmington where she is the Secretary for the Finance Council. Ellen and her husband also mentor couples who are about to be married.

Sadie started working at DCL on February 8th, 2023. She graduated from Brigham Young University-Idaho in July of 2019 and moved to Raleigh, North Carolina with her husband where they lived for 3 years. While in NC, Sadie was a club girl’s basketball coach. She also wore many hats while working at a nonprofit in Raleigh that helped families experiencing homelessness.

Sadie and her husband moved with their COVID puppy, named Beans, to Minnesota in July of 2022 for her husband’s work and then in February of 2024 they moved to Idaho. Sadie works remotely and fly’s out monthly to the office in Farmington.

Sadie enjoys being active in her church—The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints—playing basketball, pickleball, or ultimate frisbee outside. She also loves training her dog and playing board games with her husband. Sadie is also an advocate for suicide prevention and mental health.

When he moved to Minnesota he taught 5th grade for one year and went into construction—he has now been in the industry for 30 years. Matt played football, baseball and wrestled in high school. He lives with his wife, 2 daughters, and 2 dogs. He enjoys supporting his daughters in all their sporting events. Matt also served on his local fire department for 15 years.

Luke started working at DCL in 2016. He graduated from Rosemount high school and then started working at DCL. He enjoys Baseball and “dunking on fools on the court”. Luke is the youngest in his family. He is a huge fan of the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL. He also enjoys Busch Light.

She is the mother of 3 boys, the two oldest are twins. Emily also has an elderly dachshund named Sadie. She also has her own event-planning business, and is a CMP!
